The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Research Infrastructure Office (RIO) will host the 2023 Research Infrastructure Workshop from June 27 – 30, 2023, in Washington, DC. Attendees will have the option to attend the workshop in-person or virtually.
Attendees will have an opportunity to present a poster (in-person or virtually). In addition, in-person registrants will be given a tour of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum while under construction, and event organizers are working to identify a second “behind the scenes” in-person tour of a nearby museum. There will also be a reception for in-person attendees.
Registration is now open!
The Research Infrastructure Workshop (RIW) is a collaborative forum for all the National Science Foundation’s Research Infrastructure Projects. We strive to support NSF’s mission and promote the scientific endeavor with the following desired outcomes:
- Provide a forum to collect and share best practices and lessons learned
- Discuss new initiatives and collect community input
- Demonstrate project management, operations, and business-related tools and techniques
- Expand our community of practice by connecting colleagues across disciplines and organizations to promote collaboration between facilities
Registration Fees
- In-Person: The fee to attend the in-person workshop for all four days will be $1,225. This fee includes breakfast, lunch, and regular refreshments each day, and attendance at the workshop reception. It also helps cover the cost of audiovisual equipment rentals for the event. In-person speakers will be offered a small reduction in their registration fee.
- In-Person, Limited Attendance: For this year’s event, attendees who are only able to join in-person for one or two days will have the option to participate for a fee of $325 or $650, respectively. During the registration process, you will be prompted to indicate which days you plan to attend.
- Virtual: The virtual event registration fee is $200, which helps cover the technology expenses for remote participation. Speakers presenting virtually are exempt from this fee, while virtual scribes are eligible for a 50% discount.
Program content for this year’s workshop will include topics on: Facility Management including Facility Condition Assessment, Project Management (with some PDU offerings), Operations Management, Facility and Workplace Safety, Award Management, Cyberinfrastructure, Cyber Security, and Education and Public Outreach.
Notably, this year’s workshop will feature a track specific to Mid-Scale Research institutions.
Updates to the 2023 Research Infrastructure Workshop agenda will be posted on this site as the program is refined and finalized. Those interested are also encouraged to check out the agenda from 2022 RIW.
