Data, Integration, and Connectivity – Overview of Canada Foundation for Innovation Research Infrastructure and Some of the Shared Data Challenges

Through its Major Science Initiatives Fund, the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) plays a pivotal role in sustaining and advancing a diverse array of research facilities of national importance across Canada. Ranging across disciplines from ocean science to genomics, space weather, and social sciences and humanities, these facilities are managing extensive research data crucial to Canada’s research enterprise. The session offers an overview of the CFI’s role, highlighting select research facilities it supports. It examines the CFI’s approach to understanding data management practices within these facilities and sheds light on the evolving challenges encountered in managing diverse datasets.
